HL 411: Health Information Management

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the coding process as well as the function and best practices of health information management within the American healthcare delivery system. Students will list and describe key information systems, including hardware and software, used to manage health information; identify and describe the function of primary regulatory and accrediting bodies; describe and differentiate the role and responsibilities of a range of health information professionals; identify and describe the basic policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to billing and reimbursements; and, describe the major legal and ethical issues related to healthcare information management.
