The focus of this course is on Music of the 18th and early 19th centuries as reflective of the life and spirit of the times: social change, philosophical trends, the role of the artist in society, etc. Special attention is paid to Haydn, Mozart, and the early Beethoven; as well as to the relationships between the life and functions of music in that era and in our own.
