The Hebrew Bible/Old Testament emerged as an organic meaning-making framework within the context of Ancient Near Eastern cultures, both borrowing from them and diverging from their worldviews. This course explores that emergence and its relationship to the "big questions" and investigates the texts’ profound shaping of Western civilization through language, literature, art, legal principles, philosophical and theological discourse. Included in the study are examples of the impact of some of these texts and ideas on recent and contemporary cultures. This course is writing focused.
The primary discipline of this course is Religious Studies.
